The Democratic Party of Puntland was founded by a group of change-driven Puntlanders seeking a national party built on integrity, unity and social justice — moving the country away from division and toward people-centred leadership.

The Democratic Party of Puntland holds that Islam is the religion of the state and society, and that Sharia is the foundational source of all legislation. No law contrary to Islam can be adopted or enforced — every policy, economic decision and administrative act is anchored in Islamic values and Sharia.

How to join the Democratic Party of Puntland

Open to any Puntlander, or resident of Puntland, aged 18 or over, who is not an active member of another party. Members gain the right to vote, be elected, and take part in decisions — and commit to upholding the party's constitution and values.

Elections

Candidate selection, step by step

The Democratic Party of Puntland takes part fully in district, regional and general elections, supporting free, fair, transparent, one-person-one-vote elections under Puntland's electoral law.

1. Seats announced

The party announces available seats and the application window.

2. Application & fee

Candidates submit applications along with the registration fee.

3. Vetting

A vetting committee verifies eligibility, background and integrity.

4. Internal primaries

Members vote to select the party's candidate.

5. Executive approval

The Executive Council approves the final candidate list.

6. Submission

The approved list is submitted to the electoral commission.
